Story of the Month: American Heart & Stroke Association

Beginning in 1997, The American Stroke Association (ASA), is dedicated to prevention, diagnosis and treatment to save lives from stoke. With stroke the 4th leading cause of death in America (2nd worldwide) and the leading cause of serious disability, they’re working to spread the message: “minutes matter!”

Therefore, this month, NetGain Technologies’ Lexington branch sat down for a Lunch & Learn hosted by the American Stroke Association and UKHealthcare. They went through the facts, signs and symptoms, prevention steps, treatments, and the recovery process. Minutes really matter! When you see the warning signs of a stroke don’t hesitate – dial 911! When it comes to a stroke, time equals brain. During a stroke, victims can lose nearly 32,000 brain cells every second – so every second counts.

Like many companies, NetGain Technologies has personal ties to the subject; Jason Chapman, Market Development representative, has dealt with the affliction. He conveyed, “Every year 795,000 Americans have a stroke. It’s important to know the prevention steps and warning signs associated with strokes because 80 percent are preventable.” Chapman observed his 10 year anniversary of his stroke on December 4th.

Following the eye opening presentation, NetGain employees were able to receive a free stroke assessment to determine their risk level by getting scores on a number of factors; such as blood pressure, cholesterol level, family history, etc.

The American Stroke Association funds scientific research, helps people better understand and avoid stroke, encourages government support, guides healthcare professionals and provides information to enhance the quality of life for stroke survivors.
